Central London church

First job of the day in a church in central  London. Yamaha C3 grand piano. Amazing building. Sometimes even local churches surprise me with how beautiful they can be.

Schimmel Pianos

I'm doing a bit of work for London Schimmel dealer Peregrine's pianos. Am hugely impressed by these new Schimmels. They are often very good.

Busy day

Tuning 6 pianos today in a central London school plus one this morning in a hotel. 7 is normally my absolute limit for a day. It's handy that 6 of them are in the same place though. Much easier without the travelling.

Storage for musical stuff in piano practice room. Not much room for the piano tuner!

Swanky Hotel

Beautiful hotel and restaurant in central London. I tuned their Yamaha disclavier this morning. For those of you who don't know a disclavier is Yamahas take on the old pianola system. It plays itself. Also it can record you playing and play it back to you exactly as you did. Plus - can also be played by another piano anywhere in the world through the Internet. They are pretty amazing. Some of them have speakers so the piano plays while the speakers play the other instruments.

Humorous musical poster

Funny poster on the wall of the head of music at the school I am tuning at. I always read it while I'm tuning his piano as its on the wall in front of me while I tune.

Petrof Mini Service

This Petrof upright hadn't had any work carried out on it since it was bought new. The sound was getting a bit harsh and uneven. The owner plays well and also has a small boy who is really coming along with his playing.

First I took the action out and faced the hammers with sandpaper.

Then I took out all the keys.

Lubricated the key bushings and cleaned the Keybed and out the keys back.

Finally I put the action back in the piano and softened and evened the hammers out with my needling tool.

Needless to say the piano sounded great afterwards. With the key bushings now lubricated they should last much longer.

Steinway Model D

Last of 14 pianos I had to tune in a school in the city this week during their half term break. The last one is this gorgeous Steinway Model D concert grand. It's less than 5 years old. They're over £100k to buy so not many schools can have one!

Busy half term

This past week has been half term for a lot of schools. I have had 14 pianos to tune in a school in the city. It's been a feat to fit it in amongst my other jobs.

Same for next week. 11 pianos in another school half term.
